Setting Up Custom Rewards

Setting up custom experiential rewards unique to your brand

Updated over a year ago

Why are custom rewards important?

In today's competitive market, loyalty programs have become essential. But now more than ever, it is important your program doesn't feel overly transactional and feels unique to the brand.

When done right, loyalty isn't just about discounts—it's a reflection of a brand's identity and values. At rediem, we enable brands to customize ways for customers to earn rewards that align with their ethos. It's about more than just getting discounts; it's about creating a real connection with your customers and engaging in meaningful ways. When brands nail this, it builds stronger bonds with customers, increases brand recall, and keeps them coming back, which helps the brand shine in a crowded market.

Overview

Setting up Custom Rewards

In the rediem backend, navigate to Program > Points > Ways to Redeem.

Step 1: Click "Add Ways to Redeem"

When setting up custom rewards, you have three options: you can build from scratch, build from a template, or clone an existing custom reward.

  • Build from Scratch

Select "Build from Scratch" when you want to create a totally customized reward that is unique to your brand.

  • Build from Template

Need some help brainstorming different rewards? Browse our rewards templates! We drop new templates all the time and around holidays so you can plug and play.

  • Clone Existing Reward

Have a reward you launched in the past that you want to bring back but change a bit? You can duplicate previous custom rewards.

Step 2: Add the "Name" of your Reward and a "Reward Description"

In the example below, you can see how the name of the reward, ie. "$5 Donation to Ocean Wise" and reward description will show on the dash.

Step 3: Add a Banner and Preview Image

See how these two images will appear in the example above.

Step 4: Add any Terms and Conditions and How to redeem

Terms and conditions might be specific to the reward, including any legal disclaimers. How to redeem is specific instructions around how the customer can get the reward. It might be "Visit X website to redeem" or "Reply directly to our email."

Step 5: Set a Start and End Date

Set start and end dates if you only want this reward to be available for a certain period of time -- maybe it's a limited-time reward based on a seasonal offering. If this is going to be an evergreen reward (a permanent part of your loyalty program) leave this blank.

Step 5: Filter by Shopify Customer Tags

Use your Shopify customer tags to segment who sees what rewards. If you want all customers to see the reward, leave it blank. Learn more about segmentation here.

Step 6: Determine Reward Value, Redemption Amount, and Reward Destination Link

Determine the reward value based on margins and the total amount you are willing to spend for the reward. You can set limits on the per-user lifetime redemption, per-user monthly redemptions, and total redemptions (say you only have 100 candles to give out, then you would set total redemptions at 100).

Add a reward destination link if the reward requires someone to visit another website to redeem. For example, if you are offering a free national park pass, you might link to the website to get the pass here, or if you are offering a discount on a partner brand, you will link to their website here.

Choosing Your Rewards Type

Coupon Rewards

Coupon rewards are a string of letters and numbers that customers can use to redeem discounts towards your brand or other partner brands from our rewards marketplace. You can add a single code or upload multiple codes from a CSV sheet.

Single Code

Upload a generic code that can be used once per user.

Multiple Codes

Upload multiple codes that are unique to each redemption.

Email Rewards

Email rewards are the easiest way to get creative with your rewards. You could offer access to an exclusive event that you link in the email or steps on how to redeem an experiential reward (e.g., respond to this email).

Make Sure to add a "Reply to" email address if you need to coordinate with the customer on logistics.

Setting up a Correlated Task

Set up a correlated task if there is an action you need to take based on the custom reward being redeemed. For example, if the additional reward is a donation, you will want to add "Make X Donation" here. You can learn more about tasks here.
