Setting Up Product Rewards

Reward loyal customers with a free or discounted product

How It Works

Product rewards let customers redeem loyalty points, or claim without points, for a free or discounted product from the store. Use this to reward loyal customers, promote specific products, or move excess inventory.

Each reward is built around a product added from a Collection. Select an existing collection from the Collection dropdown, or click Create New Collection to add a new one on the spot.

Every reward is set to one of two Reward Type options.

  • Free Product removes the product's price entirely.

  • Exclusive Product applies a discount instead. Check Check to apply a amount discount and enter the value in the Amount Discount field.

Toggle Available for Points on to require customers to spend points on redemption, or off to make the reward available without a points cost.

Redemption can be limited with the following settings.

  • Required Paid Product requires a paid product to be in the cart before the reward can be redeemed.

  • Limit Free or Discounted Product to One Per Cart restricts redemption to one reward product per cart. If left unchecked, customers can add multiple reward products to the cart in a single transaction.

  • Per user lifetime redemption, Per user monthly redemption, and Total redemptions cap how often an individual customer, or the reward overall, can be redeemed.

The reward's coupon can be combined with other active discounts. Check Product discount, Order discounts, or Shipping discounts individually to allow stacking with each.

Use Include to limit reward visibility to customers with specific tags, or Exclude to hide the reward from customers with specific tags. Leave both blank to make the reward visible to all customers.

Set a Start Date and End Date to run the reward for a limited time, or leave both blank to run it as an evergreen reward. Use Add a prefix to discount codes. to identify reward coupons in reporting.

How Customers Redeem A Reward

When a customer adds a free or discounted product to the cart from the redemption widget, the points cost is deducted immediately, even if the purchase is not completed.

  • If the customer removes the reward product from the cart before checking out, the deducted points are reverted immediately, and in some cases within the next 24 hours.

  • If the customer leaves the reward product in the cart without completing the purchase, the points are reverted automatically within the next 24 hours, and the reward product is removed from the cart.

If Required Paid Product is enabled, a paid product must be in the cart before the reward can be redeemed. If it is disabled, customers can redeem the reward directly without adding a paid product first.

If Limit Free or Discounted Product to One Per Cart is enabled, only one reward product can be added to the cart per transaction. If it is disabled, customers can add multiple reward products to the cart in a single transaction.

  2. Click Add Product, then search for and select the product to use for the reward.

  14. Add a prefix under Add a prefix to discount codes. if needed.

Key Notes

  • Points are deducted the moment a reward product is added to the cart, not at checkout.

  • Points revert automatically if the reward product is removed from the cart, or within 24 hours if it is left unpurchased.

  • Required Paid Product controls whether a paid product must be in the cart before a reward can be redeemed.

  • Limit Free or Discounted Product to One Per Cart controls whether more than one reward product can be redeemed per transaction.

  • Leaving Start Date and End Date blank makes the reward evergreen.

  • Leaving Include and Exclude blank makes the reward visible to all customers.

  • Exclusive Product rewards use Amount Discount to reduce the product's price instead of removing it entirely.
