How It Works
The birthday reward triggers automatically when a customer has a birthday saved to their profile. The reward is sent on the customer's birthday or a chosen number of days before it.
⚠️ Important: An active Birthday Action or Profile Sequence is required for this feature to work.
📋 Note: A birthday must be saved at least 30 days before the birthday date for that year's reward to trigger. If a birthday is saved fewer than 30 days in advance, the reward is not issued until the following year to prevent fraud.
How To Set It Up
Go to Program → Points → Add Ways To Redeem.
Select Birthday Reward.
Select the trigger timing under Trigger On:
On their birthday - sends the reward on the customer's actual birthday date.
Custom Timing - sends the reward a specified number of days before the customer's birthday, instead of on the day itself.
Select who is eligible to receive the reward:
All Members - every loyalty member in the store is eligible for this reward.
Segmented by Tiers - restricts the birthday reward to customers in specific loyalty tiers, instead of rewarding all members.
Select the Reward Type by clicking Edit:
Points.
Percent Discount.
Amount Discount.
Configure the value for the rewards by either All Members or Segmented by Tiers
If the reward type is Percent Discount or Amount Discount, expand Advanced Section to configure additional settings:
Entire catalogue - discount applies to all products
Specific collections - discount applies only to selected collections
Specific products - discount applies only to selected products
Select the Purchase Type
Any - the discount applies regardless of either one-time or subscription purchases.
One-Time Purchase - the discount applies only to one-time purchases.
Subscription - the discount applies only to subscription purchases.
Enter a Minimum Purchase Amount if required to apply the discount for the birthday reward.
Configure Combination settings to control how the birthday reward can be applied alongside other discounts:
Product discount.
Order discounts.
Shipping discounts.
Add a prefix to the discount code, or leave it unchecked to skip it.
Click Save to save the configuration.
If the reward type is a percentage or amount discount, configure the Expiration by setting the number of days the discount stays active after it is issued. This overrides any global discount expiry configured in Settings.
Click Create / Update to save the birthday reward
Example Walkthrough
On their birthday
A customer's birthday is Oct 15th.
The reward is configured to trigger On their birthday.
The customer saves their birthday on or before Sept 15th — at least 30 days before Oct 15th.
The reward triggers on Oct 15th that year.
If the customer had saved their birthday after Sept 15th instead, the first reward would not be issued until Oct 15th of the following year.
Custom Timing
A customer's birthday is Oct 15th.
The reward is configured with Custom Timing to trigger 7 days before the birthday, on Oct 8th.
The 30-day rule is still measured against the birthday date (Oct 15th), not the trigger date. The customer must save their birthday on or before Sept 15th for the reward to trigger this year.
The reward triggers on Oct 8th that year.
If the customer had saved their birthday after Sept 15th instead, the first reward would not be issued until Oct 8th of the following year.
Key Notes
Reward Status must be set to Active for the reward to trigger.
A Birthday Action or Profile Sequence must be active for rewards to trigger.
If a birthday is saved fewer than 30 days before the date, the reward is not issued until the following year.
The discount code prefix, if enabled, combines with the reward type and a unique identifier to form the final code.
If Applies To is set to Specific collections or Specific products, the discount only applies to the selected items as a product discount.
Combination settings control how the reward can be applied at checkout alongside other discounts.
To give a free product as a birthday reward, set the Reward Type to Amount Discount for a Specific Product which equals to the product's price.
