This guide explains how Attentive integrates with rediem for transactional and marketing messaging. It outlines the integration types and provides setup steps for both flows.
What Does Attentive Do?
Attentive is a messaging platform that enables brands to engage customers through SMS, email, and RCS. It supports personalized campaigns, automated journeys, and real-time notifications.
With the rediem integration, customer messaging can align with loyalty engagement strategies.
Integration Types
Attentive supports two messaging flows: Transactional and Marketing.
Transactional Messaging
Transactional messaging is action-based and informational.
Key characteristics:
Sent in response to a customer action.
One-to-one and real-time.
No promotional content.
Requires explicit transactional opt-in.
Common use cases:
Points earned after a purchase.
Reward redemption confirmations.
Tier status changes.
Marketing Messaging
Marketing messaging is engagement-driven and promotional.
Key characteristics:
Brand-initiated campaigns.
May include discounts or promotional content.
Requires explicit marketing opt-in.
Common use cases:
Promote limited-time point multipliers.
Announce new rewards or redemption options.
Encourage customers to redeem available points.
Subscriber Consent and Compliance:
With the Marketing integration, customers who create an account or join the loyalty program are automatically subscribed to email marketing in Attentive. Add language to the store’s terms and conditions stating that creating an account also opts the customer into email marketing.
⚠️ Important: If the store’s terms and conditions do not include this language, use the Transactional integration instead.
Customers are opted in to SMS only when they add a phone number in the Profile Sequence. Once the phone number is submitted, the customer is opted in to SMS in Attentive right away, and no confirmation reply is needed. The consent message shown below the phone number field informs the customer that submitting their number opts them in.
📋 Note: A phone number already tied to a customer’s account, such as a shop account created with a phone number, does not opt the customer into SMS.

Adding Loyalty Attributes to Messages

“Welcome to {VIP Tier Name}, your tier entry reward is waiting"
“Love us? Send your link to a friend and grab 500 points when they join: {Referral URL}”
Here's how to add these variables to your messages:
Edit a message in the Magic Composer campaign text message or add the Send text message step in a journey. In this example, we will use a journey
Click the {} button at the bottom of the message field
Under Variable, click Choose variable and select the rediem attribute
Add the default text and click Insert
Edit your message and click Save
