Loop Exchanges

Sync Loop returns, refunds, and exchanges with customer loyalty points

Overview

What Does Loop Do?

Loop handles returns, refunds, and exchanges. When Loop is connected to rediem, points adjust automatically for refunds, cancellations, and exchanges processed in Loop, so customers only earn points on what they keep and pay for.

Requirements

Before getting started, ensure you have:

  • Admin access to the Loop Admin Dashboard.

  • An active rediem loyalty program.

  • Stripe or Shopify invoice integration enabled in Loop, if collecting price differences on exchanges.

How To Integrate

  1. Go to the Loop Admin Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Returns Management → Policy Settings → General.

  3. Locate Different Priced Exchanges.

  4. Select one of the following settings:

    • Setting 1: Allow different priced variant/advanced exchanges and collect or refund the price difference.

    • Setting 2: Allow different priced variant/advanced exchanges but don't collect or refund the difference.

    • Setting 3: Do not allow different priced variant/advanced exchanges.

  5. If using Setting 1, enable the Stripe or Shopify invoice integration so Loop can collect payment.

How It Works

Customers see exchange options on the store based on the selected setting. Under Setting 1, customers also see the price difference during the exchange flow.

Points Rules

  • Points are based on the net amount the customer pays.

  • Refunds remove points in proportion to the refunded value.

  • Points for returned or exchanged items are removed first, then new points are added based on the final item value.

  • Point adjustments appear within 15 to 30 seconds.

  • Customers do not earn points when store credit or a gift card is issued. Points are earned when the store credit is used in a purchase.

📋 Note: The examples below assume customers earn 1 point per $1 spent.

Refunds and Cancellations

These scenarios work the same under all three settings.

Partial Refund With a Coupon

  • Cart total is $25, and a $6 coupon is applied.

  • The customer pays $19 and earns 19 points.

  • The customer returns a $10 item. After the discount is distributed across the order, the refund is $7.60.

  • 7 points are removed, leaving a balance of 12 points.

Full Refund With Coupons

  • Order value is $25, and coupons of $14 and $5 are applied.

  • The customer pays $6 and earns 6 points.

  • The customer returns the full order. All 6 points are removed, and the coupons are not restored.

Cancelled Order

  • When an order is cancelled, the points earned on it are reversed automatically.

Exchanges

Same-value exchanges work the same under all three settings. If a customer exchanges a $15 item for another $15 item, no payment is required and the balance stays at 15 points.

Setting 1

The price difference is collected or refunded.

Higher Value Exchange

  • The original item is $10, and the customer earned 10 points.

  • The customer exchanges it for a $15 item and pays the $5 difference.

  • 10 points are removed and 15 points are added, for a balance of 15 points.

Lower Value Exchange

  • The original item is $17, and the customer earned 17 points.

  • The customer exchanges it for a $10 item and receives $7 in store credit.

  • 17 points are removed and 10 points are added, for a balance of 10 points.

Discounted Product Exchange

  • A $15 product was purchased for $10, and the customer earned 10 points.

  • The customer exchanges it for an $18 product and pays the $3 difference, with the original discount carried over.

  • 10 points are removed and 13 points are added, for a balance of 13 points.

Setting 2

The price difference is not collected or refunded, and every exchange is treated as equal value.

Higher Value Exchange

  • The original item is $10, and the customer earned 10 points.

  • The customer exchanges it for a $15 item and pays $0.

  • 10 points are removed and 10 points are added, for a balance of 10 points.

Lower Value Exchange

  • The original item is $17, and the customer earned 17 points.

  • The customer exchanges it for a $10 item and receives no refund.

  • 17 points are removed and [Confirm: 17 points are added back, for a balance of 17 points?].

Discounted Product Exchange

  • A $15 product was purchased for $10, and the customer earned 10 points.

  • The customer exchanges it for an $18 product and pays $0.

  • 10 points are removed and 10 points are added, so the balance stays at 10 points.

Setting 3

Exchanges are only allowed between items of the same price.

  • Higher or lower value exchanges are not available. The customer must return the item and place a new order.

  • A $15 product purchased for $10 can only be exchanged for an item with the same effective value of $10. Points stay unchanged.

Loyalty Redemptions

If a customer earns 200 points, redeems them immediately (for example, on a giveaway or donation), and later returns the order, reverse the redemption and removes the associated task .
