Introduction: Why Tracking Impact Matters

In today's market, consumers are not just buying products; they are investing in values. The modern shopper is more informed, concerned about the planet, and interested in the ethics behind their purchases than ever before. This shift means that for brands, transparency and accountability are not just optional—they are essential. Tracking the real-world impact of your products is no longer just about compliance; it's about connecting with your customers, building trust, and fostering loyalty. That's where we come in.

We are proud to be the only loyalty program that enables brands like yours to define, track, and showcase the direct impact of your products on the environment and society, specifically on the customer level. Many brands use impact reports to showcase cumulative impact, but we let individual customers see the dent they alone are making! This unique capability allows you to not only promise but prove that you are making a difference.

Overview

Choose Your Impact Indicators

Understanding that every brand is unique, we offer the flexibility to choose up to three key impact indicators that resonate most with your brand values and customer base. Here are some examples of the indicators you can track:

  • Carbon Sequestered: Show how your products are helping to reduce carbon emissions.

  • Trees Planted: Demonstrate your commitment to reforestation and ecological restoration.

  • Jobs Provided: Highlight your role in creating or supporting employment opportunities, particularly in underprivileged communities.

  • Protein Consumed: Health-focused brands can track macro and micronutrient intake based on products purchased

  • Water Saved: Showcase your efforts in water conservation and management.

  • Plastic Averted from Landfill: Illustrate how your products help reduce plastic waste.

In the backend of your rediem, click "Impact Numbers" in the left-side navigation panel. You'll see this input, where you can enter your three custom impact fields.

The number input on the left of the impact text is the 'average' that you can choose to pre-populate on all of the SKUs in the next step. This is useful if most of your products have the same impact for a specific indicator. For example, every box of tea purchased supports two farmers' incomes, or every scent of plastic-free laundry detergent saves one plastic jug from a landfill.

Setting Up Impact Metrics Per Product

Once you've chosen your indicators, the next step is establishing the specific metrics for each SKU. rediem automatically shows each product in your Shopify store, and you can then input the specific impact number associated with that product under each indicator.

📋Note: The "active" and "draft" statuses correspond to the product's status on your store, not whether or not the impact number is active for that listing.

Seamless Behind-the-Scenes Impact Tracking

The impact tracking feature automatically updates each time someone purchases on your store, ensuring that all data is up-to-date and accurately reflects the impact of each purchase. The updated impact is reflected in your customers' dashboard, your cumulative impact, and user profiles.

Running "Impact History"

Our system can crawl through your Shopify store's purchase history and automatically populate each customer's dashboard with their impact from the last year. When customers log in, they see a comprehensive view of their contributions from all purchases within a year of the program launch, not just starting from zero.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pulling all this data is a big job for our servers! You can only run your impact history once, so make sure you are satisfied with your impact indicators and the per-SKU impact numbers before you press "add impact history."

Where will your customers see these impact numbers?

We integrate these metrics into your customers' loyalty widget and profile, as well as on product listings, making it easy for consumers to see the impact of their past or future purchases.

Product Page Impact Embeds

To further promote your impact metrics, you can add a product's impact numbers to the product page. Navigate to Nudges > Create Nudge. Select "Product" as your nudge type and "Impact" as your nudge theme. Once you have customized it to your liking, click "Publish."

Set the Impact Nudge on Your Theme

Once the nudge is published, click where it says "Click here to add it to your theme." This will direct you to your Shopify product page. Select "Add block" under the template section in the left-hand column.

Select "Apps" in the pop-up, then "Rediem Impact."

Best Practices: Creatively Imbuing Impact

Incorporating impact metrics into your marketing strategies informs customers of their contributions and strengthens their connection to your brand. Here are some innovative ways to communicate these numbers:

  • Personalization with Integrations: Leverage our email and SMS marketing integrations to send personalized updates to customers. For example, an email could inform a customer, "Hey James, thanks to your purchases, you've already saved 15 trees! Keep making a positive impact with us." This direct approach makes the impact tangible and encourages continued support.

  • Social Media Campaigns: Share stories on your social media platforms that highlight the specific impacts of your products. Use visually engaging infographics and short videos to illustrate how every purchase helps, reinforcing the message that buying from your brand means contributing to a larger cause.

  • Exclusivity for Most Impactful Customers: Create exclusive events or challenges for customers who reach certain impact thresholds. For example, customers who have helped save 100 liters of water could be invited to a special webinar on water conservation. This not only rewards engaged customers but also fosters a community around shared values.

  • Educational Content: Include educational materials in your marketing to explain the importance of each impact indicator. For instance, detailing why saving water is critical can make your water-saving metrics more significant to the consumer.
